Panasonic's 3D Leadership Confirmed at CES 2010
Panasonic made its Full HD 3D the star of the International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas (January 7-10).
The day before the opening of the Show, Panasonic called for a press conference. President Fumio Ohtsubo, appearing in a live video feed from Osaka using Panasonic's HD video conferencing system, opened the press conference and wowed over 920 journalists who packed the Bellini Hall of the Venetian Hotel in Las Vegas.
Panasonic Corporation of North America Chairman & CEO Yoshihiko Yamada introduced Panasonic's Full HD 3D products including four 3D plasma TVs in 50, 54, 58 and 65 inches slated to ship this spring in the US, 3D Blu-ray players, special 3D glasses, and a 152-inch 4K x 2K 3D plasma display.
DirecTV Entertainment Executive Vice President Eric Shanks joined the press conference and announced its strategic relationship with Panasonic to bring 3D program home on DirecTV's new three dedicated 3D channels beginning this June.
Panasonic will be the exclusive presenting sponsor of those new channels, allowing for featuring Panasonic branding on all the new 3D channels for a one-year period. Skype CEO Josh Silverman also promoted his company's new collaboration with Panasonic's new line of VIERA Cast-enabled HDTVs, saying that they would make video calling "ubiquitous and available for anyone in the world."
The Panasonic booth focused on the presentation of its Full HD 3D technologies. Visitors enjoyed the immersive world of 3D in the 130-seat Full HD 3D Theater with the world's largest 152-inch Full HD 3D plasma display installed in the center. Visitors were able to experience the ultimate 3D World, plunging into the stereoscopic scenes the gigantic screen created.
Chairman Yamada looks to sell one million units or more of its 3D TVs in the global market in the first year of their launch. "We want people to think, 'Panasonic, 3D; 3D, Panasonic,'" he told Reuters in an interview.
Panasonic received a number of coveted awards during the show, which underscored Panasonic's leadership in 3D. The honors included the 2010 Innovation awards from the Consumer Electronics Association for the TC-P50V25 50-inch Full HD 3D plasma TV and the DMP-BDT350, the world's first Full HD 3D Blu-ray player with WiFi, and the 2010 Best of CES award for the TC-PVT25 series from online consumer electronics web site CNET.
